This is one of a new generation of light boxes made to fit tightly inside a perspex cover. This way the perspex protects and supports the interior structure as well as keeping the dust out. These boxes are also smaller than previous ones, so that we can put them out on a bookshelf or coffee table and enjoy them, rather than only getting them out for exhibitions.

	This is a very simple, low key design, consisting of a series of plain white surfaces, each pierced by nine openings. White light shines on the outside of the structure and a variety of coloured lights illuminate the interior.
	The overall effect is quieter and more restful than anything else I have done. The exterior exhibits a simple repetition of vertical elements picked out by the light from below. The colours within are very soft. Each frame repeats the same cut out but is lit differently.
	Looking from above you can see the way in which the external structure is again visible, like a series of filing cards. You can also look down into the interior and see how the colours vary from layer to layer.
	The perspex cover fits snugly onto the base which contains the led light source. The led's produce very little heat which makes it possible to construct the box with minimal ventillation.
	Looking directly into the box you can see the various layers, each illuminated by different coloured lights. The surfaces are all white. At the back is a distorting mirror which gives the piece greater depth.
	Here is the side view where you can see the layers which form vanes on the outer surface and the 'windows' inside. Light shines up between these vanes and produces an interesting architectural effect.
	Another side view showing how the central block is suspended above the light source, so that there is an intense white area beneath and a darker but more clearly defined area above..

The work is made of foam card covered with tissue paper and situated within a perspex box mounted on a foam card base containing two led lights. Dimensions: 309mm x 205mm x 205mm.
