Bottom | Contents Page | Introduction |
This is one of a series of works that takes the form of an illuminated enclosure with various internal structures. The works are like small theatre sets where the set itself is the focus of attention. In this case the outer walls contain a central tower with windows at each level. The work is made of foam card covered with tissue paper and situated over a light box containing a fluorescent tube. |
||
Your first view of this work is of a container formed of translucent tissue paper stretched over a frame. Light spills out, both from and through the structure. This outer form contains an inner world, like a tiny stage which can be viewed through windows in the outer walls. The tower stands at the centre of its own space and surveys its tiny world. When you look directly into the top window of the tower the interior appears to be a long corridor that is larger than the work itself. The view recedes, becoming slightly misty but always brightly illuminated. You can look into the tower and the building that stands behind it from a number of directions and each offers a slightly deceptive view. | ![]() |
