 Pocket Ghosts

Bottom Contents Page Introduction

This light box has been constructed to gain an illusion which is similar to an old theatre illusion called Pepper's Ghost. It is a smaller, neater version of one I made before as I attempt to make pieces that are easier to live with.

These photos give you a general view of the outer appearance of the work, but it is very difficult to photgraph the illusion itself.   General View

If you look straight into the box through one of the front centre openings then you see what appear to be semi-transparent spheres floating withn the further spaces of the work.   Front View

Each of the three spheres can be seen from the front to occupy some space inside the box, but if you look infrom the side you will see that the spheres are not actually there - it is an illusion.   Detail

You can get some idea of the translucent quality of one of the spheres in this close-up.   Sphere

The work is made of foam card covered with tissue paper and situated within a perspex box mounted on an MDF base. It is lit by three LED units. Dimensions: 235mm x 235mm x 350mm.
