 Looking Glass

Bottom Contents Page Introduction

Through this looking glass you see a miniature world that you can glimpse but never enter. Screens and mirrors define the space, providing an opportunity for visual exploration.

The aim here is to create a sense of depth within a frame that is in fact relatively shallow. I wanted to illuminate a 'picture' so that the viewer could explore interior spaces and have a sense of corridors and rooms tucked away behind the back of the frame. At the same time I wanted the various screens of coloured tissue to be illuminated, to attract the eye and bring the viewer closer to the work. Whereas some of the mirrors are there to create the illusion of depth, others are placed to redirect light from the side illumination onto the tissue screens.   Looking Glass: General View
