This box is part of a group of works which are like theatre sets, made up of a series of flat elements lit from beneath to give a sense of depth and hopefully a feeling of mystery. The viewer can look within but there is always something at the edge of perception. |
With this box you can either look through the front opening where you are presented with an obscure three dimensional space or you can see into the side where the space is broken down into a series of flat two dimensional elements. | ![]() |
Here is a view from the front which shows both the 'theatre' opening and the top of the flats arranged like a series of file cards. | ![]() |
In this front view each layer contributes to the creation of a three dimensional space whilst obstructing that space with horizontal and vertical bars. | ![]() |
Within the piece there is a glowing sense of light that both enables vision and confuses it. Perception is pushed to the edge and one can imagine more than one can see. | ![]() |
The work is made of foam card covered with tissue paper and situated within a perspex box mounted on an MDF base. It is lit by four LED units. Dimensions: 235mm x 235mm x 350mm. |
