In May 2013 I showed my light boxes at the Fishslab Gallery in Whitstable. The Fishslab is a community gallery owned by the local council and run by a team of volunteers. It offers a fresh display of art every week from a wide range of exhibitors.

The Fishslab Art Gallery occupies a shop on the east side of Oxford Street. When I was a child it was a fish mongers and I can remember going there with my grandmother. Whitstable has changed a lot since then. Fish Slab Art Gallery
Map You can find the Fishslab Gallery at
11 Oxford Street, Whitstable, CT5 1DB.
This is the interior of the gallery, which is long and thin. The main problem for us was the large window. As my work is illuminated we had to block out the daylight. Interior Fishslab Gallery
Graphic for Window The solution was to have a series of large images printed up and applied to the glass to exclude the light. This is a draft version of the graphics that we used.

See below for pictures of the show.

Here you can see how the graphic we had made fits the window and blocks out the daylight. Ideally we would have the door open to encourage people to come in. As we couldn't do that we placed a number of "peep holes" in the graphic so passers by could peer inside. Outside Showing Graphic
Inside the Gallery Inside it was quite gloomy, although ones eyes soon adjusted. However this was good for seeing the work all of which is illuminated.
Some of the pieces were wall hung, others stood on plinths. They are all designed to be looked into as much as to be looked at. It is difficult to convey this aspect of the work in these photos. Inside the Gallery
Inside the Gallery Here you see the other end of the gallery with the corner near the door where we sat during the show.

My thanks to Cathy, Christina and Jessica for keeping an eye on the exhibits for me. Also my special thanks to Ian Smith for setting up.
